Apply safe isolation before inspection
Inspection, replacement and cleaning must follow the machine manufacturer's operating and lockout procedures and be performed by trained personnel. Wear appropriate protective equipment and use suitable handling tools. Never test a cutting edge by hand or clear a jam while the machine is running.
Keep a record for every knife set
Record knife identification, drawing revision, installation date, clearances, material batches and operating hours. During routine checks, note unusual noise, vibration and changes in cutting or discharge. With the machine safely stopped, record wear locations, chips and fastening condition.
Use replacement history to inform selection
State whether replacement was caused by normal wear, contaminant impact, installation issues or changed operating conditions, and retain photographs. Regrinding suitability, allowances and replacement criteria must follow machine requirements and technical review. No universal threshold can be given without dimensional and material information.
